ESCAPE-2: a Future and Emerging Technologies HPC project

MOX researchers Luca Bonaventura and Tommaso Benacchio are involved in the H2020, Future and Emerging Technologies HPC project ESCAPE-2. This project will develop world-class, extreme-scale computing capabilities for European operational numerical weather and climate prediction systems. It continues the pioneering work of the ESCAPE project.

The project aims to attack all three sources of enhanced computational performance at once, namely

  • developing and testing bespoke numerical methods that optimally trade off accuracy, resilience and performance,
  • developing generic programming approaches that ensure code portability and performance portability,
  • testing performance on HPC platforms offering different processor technologies.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 800987. Researchers at MOX and Loughborough University are coordinating the activities of the Work Package 1, focused on the development of novel, advanced numerical methods. More information in the project can be found at http://www.hpc-escape2.eu .
