VACANCY: Post Doctoral Researcher in Mathematical Modelling for use in the Pharmaceutical Industry

VACANCY: Post Doctoral Researcher in Mathematical Modelling for use in the Pharmaceutical Industry.

Salary Scale: €37,750 – € 46,225 p.a.

The Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry (MACSI) is Ireland’s largest applied and industrial mathematics group and works closely with scientists and industrial companies across a wide variety of sectors including the Pharmaceutical sector. MACSI’s aim is to foster new collaborative research, in particular on problems that arise in industry through the application of cutting-edge mathematical and modelling techniques. The Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre (PMTC) is hosted by the University of Limerick with core funding of €1M per annum from the Irish government (Enterprise Ireland and the IDA Ireland). PMTC, established in December 2013, is led by an industry steering board with an active research program driven by its industry members. Companies access PMTC to create projects and execute world-beating industry-r issues.

The successful candidate will join the PMTC and MACSI teams as part of the “Soft sensor modelling tools” theme of the PMTC Research Programme.

Cleaning of equipment is a crucial but time-consuming step in pharmaceutical manufacture, and there is potential for significant increases in manufacturing efficiency if improved cleaning protocols are developed. This successful candidate will work on a project which will assist the development of new cleaning protocols by developing and analysing mathematical models based on differential equations of the interactions of adherents and solvents on different surfaces. The candidate will work with PMTC partners to meet industrial needs. The candidate will have good communication skills and be expected to contribute to marketing and promotion activities of both PMTC and MACSI within the University and outside.
