Coimbra. Research Centre in Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics

The Research Centre in Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics (CeDRI) is an applied inter-disciplinary research unit that clusters together active researchers from the fields of Electronics, Computer Science and Mathematics. The research activities at CeDRI aim to develop scientific knowledge and applications in technological systems of high impact in industry, fostering the competitiveness of the socio-economic system, with a special focus on regions of low population.

The diverse range of research activities, spanning areas such as Advance Human-Machine Integration, Industrial Embedded Systems, Cyber-physical Systems, Intelligent Systems, Data Analysis, Collaborative Robotic Systems, and Modelling and Optimization for decision Support, reflects a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach. This approach is essential for addressing complex challenges in the rapidly evolving fields of digitalization and intelligent systems.

CeDRI has 30 PhD professors/researchers and more than 100 fellowships enrolled in PhD programs, in master’s programs or in bachelor’s programs, emphasizing the commitment to training and developing the next generation of researchers and professionals in these fields.

In 2025, CeDRI has 39 projects ongoing under thematics of Industrial Embedded Systems, Cyber-physical Systems, Intelligent Systems, Data Analysis, Modelling and Optimization for decision Support.

CeDRI was evaluated as Excellent, the highest mark, in the last national evaluation of research centers conducted by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). This evaluation indicates that CeDRI is not only actively contributing to cutting-edge research but is also recognized for its overall excellence in various aspects, such as research output, impact, and organizational structure.
