The Spanish Network Mathematics-Industry (math-in®, www.math-in.net) has promoted a new platform, the Spanish Platform for Modeling, Simulation and Optimization Technologies in a Digital Environment (PET MSO-ED, www.pet-mso-ed.es ). This new platform has been funded in the call for grants to Technology and Innovation Platforms, within the State Program for Research, Development and Innovation Oriented to the Challenges of Society, in the framework of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2017-2020 of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
The main objective of PET MSO-ED is to promote and strengthen collaboration in R&D&I between the public and private sectors, taking advantage of the potential of mathematics to address the challenges posed in the industrial world and in society.
The society challenges on which the Platform is focused are:
- Challenge 1: Health, Demographic Change and Well-Being.
- Challenge 3: Safe, Efficient and Clean Energy.
- Challenge 5: Climate Change and Use of Natural Resources and Raw Materials.
To carry out the work related to the challenges, Working Groups have been set up, one for each challenge, jointly coordinated by an academic and an industrialist. In addition to two cross-cutting groups, the Capabilities White Paper and Use Cases Working Group and the Spanish Hub of Technologies MSO-ED Working Group.
Currently 34 Spanish entities participate in the platform, 17 of them non-academic. The Spanish Hub of Technologies MSO-ED will be launched at the beginning of 2022.
