Mathematics at the service of the heart

iHEART, that is “an integrated heart model for the simulation of the cardiac function”, is an attempt to create a complete mathematical model of the human heart, which includes the electrical, mechanical and fluid-dynamic processes from the cell scale to the organ scale.

The project has been funded with an Advanced ERC Grant from the European Union.

Research carried out to date has already attracted considerable interest in the medical community. After many original improvements regarding methodology,  our focus has now shifted to early field tests, in which mathematicians and doctors cooperate to optimize critical clinical procedures.
