SPbPU Celebrates 120th Anniversary
Hello again from Saint Petersburg! The year has passed since our last meeting, and we have a lot to share.
In 2019 Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University celebrates its 120th anniversary. Through all the time of its existence, our alma mater has been making its worthy contribution both to the development of the Russian science and education, and to the establishment of the world science, education, and industry.
On February 18, foreign partners congratulated SPbPU on its birthday More than 40 delegations from almost 20 countries – not just partners but true friends – came to the university.
Rector of SPbPU, Academician of the RAS A.I. Rudskoi was greeting the guests. After personal contacts with the rector and president of Polytechnic University, the guests moved to the Main Building, where a ceremonial meeting of the SPbPU Academic Council Presidium and delegations from foreign universities took place.
“Polytechnic University has been developing and strengthening its relations with foreign partners for more than a century; decades of real friendship are tying us with many of them,” SPbPU Rector Andrey Rudskoi opened the meeting with these words. It is a matter of honour and pride for our Academic Council Presidium to hold this session dedicated to the 120th anniversary of our University together with our friends from leading universities and companies from all over the world.
After the official ceremony, colleagues started the signing of partner agreements. On the eve of the significant day for Polytechnic University, an agreement with a strategic partner of our university, the University of Stuttgart (Germany) was extended. Two agreements were signed with Frances Torres, rector of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia: on the development of academic mobility and collaboration within the framework of the Erasmus + project. Also, SPbPU concluded cooperation agreements with Kazakh-German University and Karaganda State Technical University. The rector of Polytechnic University, President of KGU, Professor Laszlo Ungwari and Rector of KarSTU Marat Ibatov signed the documents.
The ceremony of awarding the gown and diploma of an Honorary Doctor of SPbPU to the Minister of Economy and Energy of Brandenburg (Germany), Professor Jörg Steinbach was the next highlight of the meeting of the SPbPU Academic Council Presidium. Professor Steinbach had worked in senior positions at various universities in Germany and made a great personal contribution to their cooperation with Polytechnic University. Thus, during his presidency at the Technical University of Berlin, our universities became strategic partners. Under the directorship of Jörg Steinbach, Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus became one of the key partners of SPbPU. The Laboratory of Light Materials and Structures was created in collaboration with this institution within the framework of the Polytechnic Mega Grant Program; this laid the basis for the development of joint Master’s degree and doctoral programs.
During the whole year, there will be a lot of events dedicated to the SPbPU anniversary. We hope that our partners, friends and colleagues from all over the world will join them, and boost our partnership and cooperation.
See you at Polytech!
