Looking back at the ECMI2021 Conference

The ECMI 2021 conference was held as a pure online conference hosted by the Bergische Universität Wuppertal from April 13th to April 15th 2021.

We tried to keep all traditional elements of a biennial ECMI conference: 11 plenary lectures, an Anile prize lecture, two Wacker prize lectures, lectures within 28 minisymposia, e.g. from the ECMI special interest groups, as well as a couple of contributed talks were scheduled. At ECMI 2021, we focused on our partnership with the Asia-Pacific Consortium of Mathematics-for-Industry (APCMfI) and scheduled a special minisymposium with a short introduction to APCMfI.

It was really a dense programme with more than 10 hours on each of the 3 days, with up to 8 sessions in parallel and in total more than 350 participants. Apart from minor technical problems, everything went very smoothly and the online video conference system of the University of Wuppertal proved to be stable. Let me thank again all the technical assistants who made this conference run smoothly.

We also made some recordings, some of the plenary talks and some selected talks related to the mathematics of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are now all posted on the ECMI YouTube channel.

As usual we will publish a conference proceedings Progress in Industrial Mathematics at ECMI 2021, at Springer, see ‘Submission’ for further details. Please follow the updates of the conference website. Here, we expect up to 200 submissions before the deadline of August 31!

So, to conclude, ECMI2021 can be regarded as a succesful event and we hope to meet each other again at the onsite conference ECMI2023 in Wrocław, June 26-30, 2023.

Save the Date!
Matthias
