Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Dear colleagues, friends, authors and readers of our blog,

As Christmas and the New Year approaches I want to take the time to thank you for your contributions, making our blog a lively and continuously growing source of information. Last year we had more than 20 000 visits, among them nearly 50% from non-European countries.

In recent years, ECMI has been in a phase of expansion and re-interpretation of the spirit in which it was originally created. As a visible sign of change, we have brushed up our corporate design and we have developed new formats of member information with the annual report and this blog. Last but not least we have strengthened our research & innovation activities by supporting the creation of new Special Interest Groups as thematic platforms of collaboration between Maths and industry.

With more than 100 institutional members ECMI is a truly European success story proving the benefit of international collaboration and I am very grateful that I had the chance to contribute to its development as president during the last two years.

In January, Adérito Araújo from the University of Coimbra in Portugal will take over and I am sure that ECMI will continue to flourish with him.

In the spirit of the season I wish you Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
