Modelling fault reactivation

Researchers in the Computational Geosciences group at the MOX Laboratory (https://mox.polimi.it/) have been working for the last 6 years on the problem of induced seismicity to understand if and how human activities could have an impact on fault reactivation, and, thus, be the co cause of small-to-moderate earthquakes.
This requires the simulation of the problem of fluid flow in the subsurface coupled with the evolution of geomechanical stresses, and must take into account the shape and properties of the faults, which are often affected by some uncertainty which should be taken into account in the analysis.
