New PhD position in mathematical data analysis at TU Delft
PhD position in mathematical data processing and modelling is open for applications starting from October 2019 and will be filled by the end of the year. This is the second PhD position in the project Flight to Vitality (FtV) jointly financed by the EU, Dutch industry/agriculture and TU Delft. The candidate will work at the Group of Numerical Analysis within the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics and will, together with another PhD candidate, develop mathematical methods and tools for the analysis of vast amounts of data generated by the project team.
The goal of the FtV project is to uncover the factors determining the vitality of potato seeds. The main focus of this second PhD is on the analysis of data related to the bio-physical characteristics of tubers, ranging from chemical constitution to accompanying micro-organisms.
The applicant is expected to have an MSc in Applied Mathematics or a related field, programming experience in Python, excellent communication skills, and be prepared to work on an interdisciplinary project. This PhD provides an excellent opportunity to use mathematics to solve a very interesting and urgent practical problem.
Send your motivation letter, CV with contact details of two referees, and a copy of your MSc Thesis to Neil Budko (n.v.budko@tudelft.nl) and Kees Vuik (c.vuik@tudelft.nl). Feel free to contact us for additional information about the project and TU Delft.
