The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) is hiring a PhD candidate (DC5) under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie MSCA-DN e-ChemIn project.

  • Project: Develop inverse modeling and optimization methods (Bayesian sampling, Monte Carlo, ML) to build 3D atomistic models of solid-liquid and solid-solid interfaces for next-generation energy storage (e.g., Na-ion batteries).
  • Secondments: Research stays at INM (Germany), CIC energiGUNE (Spain), and KTH (Sweden).
  • Requirements:
    • Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computational Chemistry, or related fields.
    • Experience in atomistic simulations (MD, MC) and scientific programming (Python/C++/Julia).
    • Excellent command of English.
    • MSCA Mobility Rule: Must not have resided or worked in Spain for more than 12 months in the last 3 years (and must not hold a PhD).
  • Offer: 36-month full-time contract starting Nov 2026 – Apr 2027. Competitive MSCA salary (living + mobility + family allowance) with local tax benefits in Bizkaia.

  • IC2026_07_06_PhD Position: Theoretical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs)

Location: BCAM (Bilbao, Spain) | Deadline: Sept 20, 2026 (14:00 CET)

The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) is launching a 4-year PhD position under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Fanelli, funded by the AEI project GHOST.

  • Project: Theoretical analysis of PDE systems modeling fluid dynamics (well-posedness, qualitative properties, asymptotic analysis, and singular limits) using harmonic/Fourier analysis, functional analysis, and distribution theory.
  • Host & PhD Program: APDE research group at BCAM with enrolment in the Mathematics & Statistics PhD program at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Includes funding for international research stays, conference attendance, and seminars.
  • Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Pure or Applied Mathematics.
    • Strong background in Mathematical Analysis, Calculus, Functional Analysis, Distribution Theory, and ODEs/PDEs.
    • Fluency in English and strong communication/teamwork skills.
  • Offer: 4-year contract starting Jan 1, 2027. Gross annual salary of €25,456 + up to €500 moving allowance + family allowances (if applicable) + Spanish Public Health System coverage.

  • IC2026_07_01_Research technician in Smart Wearables in Elite Sports

Location: BCAM (Bilbao, Spain) | Deadline: Sept 15, 2026 (14:00 CET)

The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) is hiring a Research Technician under the supervision of Dr. Elisabetta de Giovanni for the PrediSense and SWEATHEART projects.

  • Project: Fieldwork and data science to automate cardiorespiratory parameter detection in elite athletes using wearable sensors. Involves active collaboration with Bilbao Kirolak across 6 rugby, basketball, and football teams. Suitable as a Master’s Thesis project for enrolled students.
  • Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (completed or near completion) in Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields.
    • Interest in fieldwork and basic/intermediate skills in biosignal processing and programming (Python/Matlab).
    • Fluency in English.
  • Offer: 1-year contract (starting ASAP). Gross annual salary of €20,663 – €29,075.
