Peregrina Quintela Estévez wins the María Wonenburger prize

Peregrina Quintela Estévez, Full Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, was awarded the María Josefa Wonenburger Planells 2016 prize.

Peregrina Quintela is specialized in mathematical modeling, mathematical analysis and numerical simulation of models arising from the fields of Physics, Engineering or Applied Sciences. Throughout her career she has combined teaching, research and management duties. Due to her commitment to knowledge transfer, in recent years she has devoted a great part of her efforts to promote the huge potential of Industrial Mathematics. Currently, she is the President of the Spanish Network for Mathematics and Industry (math-in) (2011-), Director of the Technological Institute of Industrial Mathematics (ITMATI) (2013-), member of the management committee of the COST Action TD1409 Mathematics for Industry Network (MI-NET) and member of the European Service Network of Mathematics for Industry and Innovation (EU-MATHS-IN) Board (2015-).

The “Xunta de Galicia” created this award in 2006 to highlight the outstanding careers of women in the field of science and technology, a commitment by the Galician Government from the General Secretariat of Gender Equality. Since its inception, women who dedicate their professional lives to a specific field of science or technology were awarded with this recognition.
