ecmi 2026

Today, we officially opened the ECMI 2026 Conference at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU). We are delighted to welcome participants from all over the world to Kaunas for a week of inspiring discussions, scientific exchange and new collaborations in industrial and applied mathematics.

The opening ceremony featured welcome addresses by Prof. Dr. Edita Gimžauskienė, Vice-Rector of Kaunas University of Technology, Prof. Alessandra Micheletti, President of ECMI (University of Milan), and Prof. Dr. Audrius Kabašinskas (KTU FMNS), Chair of the ECMI 2026 Conference.

The ceremony also included the presentation of the ECMI Awards, honouring the recipients of the Lanczos Prize for Mathematical Software, as well as the winners of the ECMI competitions for the best Master’s theses and PhD dissertations.

The scientific programme started with the first plenary lecture by Prof. Marta Fiocco (Leiden University, the Netherlands), entitled “A Two-Step Methodology for Causal Inference with Survival Outcomes in the Presence of Time-Varying Latent Confounding.”

The programme continues this afternoon with the plenary lecture by Prof. Paola Francesca Antonietti (Politecnico di Milano, Italy), “The Mathematics of Neurodegenerative Diseases,” followed by parallel sessions covering a wide range of topics in industrial and applied mathematics.

Later this evening, participants will meet again at the ECMI Welcome Reception – a great opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, meet new members of the ECMI community and enjoy the beginning of an exciting week in Kaunas.

Welcome to ECMI 2026 – we wish everyone an inspiring and successful conference!
