This time, to answer the growing demand for emphasizing the applications of mathematics, it was organized not only with a mathematical society from a country that plays a significant role in mathematics in the world: the Italian Mathematical Union (Unione Matematica Italiana – UMI), but also with the Italian Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (Società Italiana di Matematica Applicata e Industriale – SIMAI).
During the conference 12 plenary talks were presented by outstanding speakers, mostly being world’s leading experts in their fields. Let us only mention the lecture by Luigi Preziosi (Politecnico di Torino) who demonstrated that cell-extracellular matrix interaction and the mechanical properties of cell nucleus play a fundamental role in cell movement across fibre networks and micro-channels.
The conference was divided into 44 thematic sessions with the overall number of 553 talks. Among others the sessions included Mathematical Modelling for Complex Systems, Financial Mathematics, Differential Inclusions and Controlled Systems, Stochastic Models of Molecular Anomalous Diffusion and Fractional Dynamics, Challenges and Methods of Modern Statistics, Computational Mathematics: Discrepancy and Complexity, and Multiscale Models in Mathematical Biology. The event was truly international with 683 participants from 32 different countries, mostly from Poland (303 participants) and Italy (232).
We are certain that many more great collaborations will develop from the interactions started at the conference.
