Kaunas. Science, Collaboration and Discovering Lithuania

As ECMI 2026 reaches its third day, participants continue to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborations and explore the latest developments in industrial and applied mathematics.

Today’s scientific programme featured two inspiring plenary lectures. Prof. Stefano Maria Iacus (European Commission, Joint Research Centre, Spain; Institute for Quantitative Social Science, Harvard University, USA) presented “Toward a Trusted and Predictable Online World: The Role of Data Science in Enhancing Digital Safety,” highlighting the growing importance of data science in creating a safer digital environment. Later, Prof. Sigrid Leyendecker (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen–Nürnberg, Germany) delivered the plenary lecture “From Geometry to Solutions: Enhancing Modelling, Simulation and Control of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems,” demonstrating how advanced mathematical methods contribute to the modelling, simulation and control of complex engineering systems.

Alongside the plenary lectures, participants also took part in parallel sessions covering a broad range of topics in industrial and applied mathematics.

Following today’s scientific sessions, participants will take part in the ECMI Conference Excursion around Kaunas. The excursion offers an opportunity to discover the city while continuing conversations, strengthening existing collaborations and building new connections within the ECMI community.

Tomorrow, the conference returns to KTU with Industry Day, dedicated to presentations by industry representatives showcasing how mathematics helps address real-world challenges across different sectors. The day will conclude with the ECMI Social Dinner at Mokslo Sala Science Museum, bringing participants together for another evening of networking in one of Kaunas’ newest science and innovation venues.
