SALARY SCALE : €35,407 – €52,087 p.a. or the salary scale €47,347 – €65,000 p.a.

- Education or equivalent industrial experience to at least BSc level, either in applied/industrial mathematics or another STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) subject with significant mathematical modelling content (Essential)
- PhD in in applied/industrial mathematics or another STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) subject with significant mathematical modelling content.(Desirable)
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The MACSI Research Manager (MRM) will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of MACSI, and lead efforts to diversify its funding sources to ensure future sustainability. The MRM will be embedded in the MACSI research team, and be the first point of contact for industrial partners.
DESCRIPTION:
The MRM will have oversight of the day-to-day running of MACSI. With guidance from UL’s Research Office, the MRM will proactively identify Irish and EU funding opportunities best suited to the research team. The MRM will work closely with MACSI researchers to iteratively develop proposals from initial concept to final draft, and provide hands-on support with the coordination, submission, and follow-through of funding proposals. The manager will also lead liaison with industry partners and funding bodies, including representing MACSI at industrial and academic events, reporting on MACSI’s achievements, publicising MACSI’s capabilities, facilitating industry meetings, and organising regular industry-academic interdisciplinary workshops.
Essential Criteria
- Education or equivalent industrial experience to at least BSc level, either in applied/industrial mathematics or another STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) subject with significant mathematical modelling content.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Impeccable written English
- Demonstrable experience of scientific or technical writing
- Project management skills
Desirable Criteria
- PhD in in applied/industrial mathematics or another STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) subject with significant mathematical modelling content.
- Track record of successful grant applications
- Knowledge of the Irish and EU funding landscape
- Experience of budget management and liaising with funding agencies
- Some familiarity with the ‘study group with industry’ format
- Experience of successful industrial-academic partnerships
To be Appointed at the Higher Grade the following is required:
- Strong scientific background or significant exposure to mathematical modelling
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a role at a similar level in industry or academia.
