SUMMARY:ICMS and MAC-MIGS Modelling Camp 2024
DESCRIPTION:The International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) and The Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences are hosting our annual modelling camp from 23-26 April. \nThis event is designed for PhD students and takes a similar format to a study group\, with several real-world challenges being tackled in groups over the course of the workshop. \nModelling camps provide excellent skills training for early career researchers and provide the opportunity to apply different branches of the mathematical sciences to a practical setting. \nTake a look at some feedback from last year’s participants: \n “It was good that I could experience different area in maths apart from my research area.”\n “It was a good experience to build connection with the industrial partners.”\n “I was lucky to be in a great group where we could achieve great things over the week\, so it exceeded my expectations.” \nIf you are a PhD student who would like to attend\, please visit our webpage to register your interest. \nDeadline: 23 February (places are limited) \nShare\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:online HACKATHON – inFer GW4 network “Fertility: In Vitro\, In Silico\, In Clinico”
DESCRIPTION:Put on your thinking caps\, show some team spirit and win cash prizes! \nWe invite students and researchers at all levels and from any organisation or country to participate! Participants will work in teams to analyse real-world data related to key challenges in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). The challenges will be released online on 12th February and participants will have until the 18th of February\, midnight to submit their solutions. \nPrizes will be awarded to the first three winning teams: \n1st place – 500 GBP\, 2nd place – 300 GBP\, 3rd place – 200 GBP \nThe challenges will be released on 12th February 2024\, 10am\, on the inFer website here. Please register here by the 15th of February. \nThe winners will be revealed at the 2nd networking event of the InFer network\, which is hosted by the University of Bristol on the 22nd of February 2024 (hybrid event). You can see more details and register for the latter event here. \nTeams can have from two to five members. We encourage teams to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach. \nThe participants should include a narrative explaining their problem-solving methodology\, and outcomes reached. Submissions should include a clear and concise description of max. 2000 words\, along with any necessary documentation or instructions. You would also need to provide a summary that could be advertised to and be understandable by the general public\, up to 200 words. \nWe require that participants create a GitHub repository where their final solution can be uploaded\, together with a ‘README’ mark-up page outlining the specific challenge aims and objectives\, the methods followed\, and the solution produced. In addition to source code\, we encourage outputs that highlight the solution in action e.g. videos and animations. You can join GitHub with an individual account and collectively create and join a ‘team’ but note that if you have your own repository that is fine as long as it is made publicly available. \nAll entries i.e. code repositories\, must clearly state the team name\, the challenge\, and the solution name (e.g. ‘TeamName_ChallengeName_SolutionTitle’). Please use this naming convention to aid management of and access to the materials. All source code produced must be made open access. \nAn excellent winning entry in a different Hackathon can be found here. \nTo submit your solution\, please go to the Hackathon page and scroll down to find the submission form. Detailed terms and conditions are found on the website. \nFor further information\, please contact us (kaourik@cardiff.ac.uk\, woolleyt1@cardiff.ac.uk). \nInFer is an academia-industry\, multidisciplinary network aiming to improve the success rates of In Vitro Fertilization\, led by Cardiff Mathematics (Katerina Kaouri and Thomas Woolley). It is currently funded by the GW4 alliance (Bristol\, Bath\, Cardiff and Exeter universities). \nShare\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:18th Conference on Computer Science and Intelligence Systems (FedCSIS 2023)
DESCRIPTION:The 18th Conference on Computer Science and Intelligence Systems (FedCSIS 2023) cordially invites you to contribute a Technical Session (conference\, symposium\, workshop\, consortium meeting\, project dissemination meeting\, special session\, etc.). The FedCSIS conferences consist of five Tracks that contain Technical Sessions. Many of them are the recurring yearly events\, but we also solicit and welcome proposals for new Technical Sessions\, until November 14\, 2022. Moreover\, the existing events that would like to join the FedCSIS conference series\, are also welcome. The Technical Sessions can run over any span of time within the conference dates; from half-day to three days.\nFedCSIS is a large rigorous scientific conference staged across Europe. Annually\, it attracts ~300 submissions from ~40 countries from around the world. Papers are accepted in three categories: regular (full and short)\, position\, and communication. All regular\, presented\, papers are submitted to IEEE Xplore Digital Library\, and many are offered post-publication opportunities (journals\, Springer volumes\, etc.) after appropriate extensions and changes. Position and communication papers are published in separate volumes of the Annals of Computer Science and Information Systems series. All papers are published with ISBN\, ISSN and DOI numbers\, and submitted to\, and indexed in\, the most influential indexing services. SUMMARY:172 European Study Groups with Industry (172 ESGI)
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Organizers\, we would like to invite you to participate\nin the 172 European Study Group with Industry (172 ESGI) that will be held\nin a hybrid format (online and onsite) between February 15 and 27\, 2023\,\nwith a total duration of 44h. A detail of its structure is shown in the\nProgram Section.\nThe onsite part will be held in Seville from February 20 to 21. \nThis ESGI will focus on the area of HEALTH\, DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGE AND WELLBEING \nThe success of the ESGIs lies in its unique format. The researchers gather\nin working groups to address and solve problems raised by the participant\ncompanies. Thanks to the cross-cutting nature of mathematics\, these\nproblems can come from any industrial sector. \nIn addition\, this way of interacting allows companies to familiarize with\nthe technological capabilities and working methods of the researchers from\nIndustrial Mathematics\, helping to establish lasting and productive\nworking relations between mathematicians and industry. \nTherefore\, collaboration between industry experts and mathematical\nresearchers is essential to successfully address technological innovation\nproblems. The ESGIs contribute to the promotion of mathematical technology\nand to raise the awareness of the companies on the use of Mathematics to\nimprove their processes. \nThat is why we would see you at this event\, so that together we can make\nthis study group a success that will help us to valorize Mathematics as\nanother branch in the transfer of scientific knowledge to industry. \nWe hope to meet you in the virtual space enabled for this event. \n\nBest regards\,Emilio Carrizosa Priego\, President of math-in.Peregrina Quintela Estévez\, President of PET MSO-ED.Find out more at:http://math-in.net/172esgi/en/presentacion-eng/If you have any questions please contact us: info@pet-mso-ed.es\nShare\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Taylor Mapping and Polynomial Neural Networks for solution of forward and inverse ODE problems
DESCRIPTION:CY-MATHS-IN seminar series\n \n\n January 31st\, at 1pm Nicosia time\, Eastern European Time EET (UTC+02:00)\nThe talk will be held online on zoom  https://zoom.us/j/9947402955?pwd=Um8wdTdHeStFMTM3LzNRL3l3Umc5QT09\nIt is also advertised on our LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/events/profuweiben-sseminar7019269714803634176/\n\n \n\nAbstract: The lecture deals with the so-called Taylor Map (TM) approach for solving systems of ordinary differential equations and their inverse problems.  The method for inverse problems applies even if the underlying ordinary differential equation is partially or completely not explicitly known which is the case with many technical applications. This procedure is interpreted in terms of Polynomial Neural Networks (PNNs). The physical knowledge is incorporated into the network since its architecture is designed on directly top of the Taylor Map approach. This does not only improve the data efficiency but also reduce the effort of the included training procedure.  On this basis we demonstrate the application on a system of  catalytic reaction equations to highlight the capabilities of this method in practice. Thus\, the PNN  approach can also be used as a meta or surrogate model.\n\n \nProf. Dr. Uwe Iben\n \n\nBio: Master and PhD in numerical mathematics (Moscow State University and Technical University of Dresden)\, PhD in thermodynamics (Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg); since 1999 engineer and Chief Expert for Cavitation and multi-phase flow – Corporate Research at Robert Bosch GmbH\, 2016-2020 Head of Research and Technology Offices in Russia\, since 2020 Chief Expert Applied Mathematics\, Honorarium Professor at Stuttgart University; H-index: 15; i\n\nShare\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:35th ECMI modelling week in Verona
DESCRIPTION:The 35th ECMI Mathematical Modelling Week will be organized by the \, and will take place on 3-10 July\, 2022 at the University of Verona\, Italy. \nWebsite: https://ecmimw2022.di.univr.it \nECMI has been running annual Modelling Weeks for students since 1988. Students come from all over Europe to spend a week working in small international groups on projects which are based on real-life problems. Each group is led by an ECMI instructor who introduces the problem – usually formulated in non-mathematical terms – on the first day\, and then helps to guide the students to a solution during the week. The students present their results to the other groups on the last day and then write up their work as a report. \nThe main aims of the Modelling Weeks are: train students in Mathematical Modelling and stimulate their collaboration and communication skills\, in an international environment. \nAttendance at a Modelling week is an integral part of the ECMI certificate and of many of the masters courses run at ECMI centres\, but many other students have also learned new skills by attending one of these very successful courses. \nA number of similar Modelling Weeks or Modelling Camps are organized by ECMI members each year. \nA full list of previous events can be found from here. \nWELCOME TO VERONA!\nThe ORGANIZING COMMITTEE\n\nShare\n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading...
