PhD in Barcelona

The Industrial Mathematics Research Group at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica in Barcelona is seeking candidates to for a PhD on “Environmental applications of diffusion with a moving boundary” as part of the Maria de Maeztu Centres of Excellence funding. The project will focus on the removal of environmental contaminants via sorption (examples include carbon capture, water or biofuel purification). Mathematically this involves coupling advection diffusion equations to mass removal models.

The work will be carried out in collaboration with an experimental group at the University of Girona.

Candidates should be in possession of a Master’s degree or to have finished the Masters before taking up the grant (Sept. 2023). A background in applied mathematics, physics or engineering is preferable.

Experience in partial differential equations and computing is advantageous as well as a desire to improve the environment.
