Overview of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University

Hello! Our current post is an introduction to our university. Actually it is a speech of welcome from our rectorate.  

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) is the leading technical university in Russia committed to training highly qualified specialists and conducting cutting edge research. The idea of leadership in engineering education was the basis for establishing the university 116 years ago in 1899.

The primary mission of our university is to contribute to scientific development that is firmly connected with the real needs of industries and the world community and to provide solutions for the global issues of high significance.

The university has achieved international prestige based on the high-ranking results of its scientific schools in the field of energy, information technology, industrial and civil engineering, ecology, physics, and mechanical engineering.

People who studied and lectured at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University during more than one hundred years contributed much to the fame and recognition of the university. Nobel laureates P.L. Kapitsa, N.N. Semenov, Zhores Alferov, academicians A.F. Ioffe, I.V. Kurchatov, A.A. Radtsig, Yu. B. Khariton are just a few prominent names among hundreds of talented scientists and production managers whose activities are connected with the University and whose achievements served as the foundation for the development of the Russian science and engineering.

Currently SPbPU is keeping pace with world scientific frontier and actively developing the key research fields by opening new laboratories and clusters in advance manufacturing, additive technologies, material science, biomedicine and life science.

Today Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is ready to meet the global challenges of the 21st century, and trains highly qualified engineers, who will lead the way in shaping the future of Russian science and deliver top-level performance and will elevate the competitiveness of the country worldwide.
